Participation Gran Rondo NL 700 - Longest Weekend Challenge

Gran Rondo NL 700 is an individual challenge in which you comply with local traffic and access regulations. Participation is self-supported, without technical or medical assistance. Participants who have their brevet card stamped at every checkpoint will receive their well-deserved reward at the finish.

Full self-supported - a separate category and ranking for participants who complete the entire route under their own power, without pre-arranged external assistance. Food, drinks, and overnight accommodation must come exclusively from public sources accessible to everyone and must not be arranged in advance.

Semi self-supported - for participants who complete the entire route under their own power but prefer to plan ahead. External assistance is permitted, as is arranging overnight accommodation in advance.

The following applies explicitly to all participants: We only cycle when the sun is above the horizon, between 5:15 a.m. (sunrise) and 10:00 p.m. (sunset) - due to nature regulations. See the explanation in the Questions & Answers: Route Details. Anyone who does not comply with this will be disqualified.

Registration is open from November 1, 2026, until June 1, 2027, at the latest.‎

The minimum age to participate is 18.

Check-in and start

Check-in is possible at JOOP Coffee & Smiles in Schoorl on Thursday, June 17, 2027, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The nature reserves along the route are restricted or completely inaccessible between sunset (10:00 p.m.) and sunrise (5:20 a.m.). The gravel route runs along the North Sea beach between Castricum and Bergen aan Zee. Cycling on the beach during the day between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. is not permitted. Between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., you must take the dune route.

The group start is on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 6:00 a.m. at JOOP Coffee & Smiles in Schoorl. Starting earlier or later is not permitted.

GPS Live Tracker

At check-in, you will be provided with a GPS live tracker on loan, for which you are responsible from the moment it is issued. You must carry the tracker switched on throughout the entire event.

After finishing, the tracker must be returned as soon as possible, no later than one week after the event, on Monday, June 28, 2027, at the finish location - JOOP Coffee & Smiles in Schoorl.

The largest circle in the Netherlands - Based on 'The largest circle in the Netherlands' by Quinda, but even a bit rounder and more fun!

To put this loop on the map, you’ll make an impressive circuit through the Netherlands. In eight different provinces, you’ll cross a variety of beautiful landscapes in ‘the Low Countries’, between the North Sea coast in the west and the German border to the east.

It’s a legendary circuit with famous cycling highlights, including the Kennemer Dunes, Kopje van Bloemendaal, Rijk van Nijmegen, Montferland, Muur van Zeddam, Col du VAM, Dwingelderveld, Drents-Friese Wold, Alde Feanen, the Afsluitdijk, and the famous beachfront boulevard of Egmond aan Zee.

After 700 km (road route) or 750 km (gravel route) in the saddle, you’ll return to the starting point. The circle is complete!

Narrow tires? The road route is 99% on paved roads.

Gravel bike? Take the surprising gravel route with approximately 50% unpaved/gravel sections.

Early Weekend Kickoff
On Thursday, June 17, 2027, we kick things off in the afternoon with check-in, a meet & greet with the other participants, setting up your tent if you're staying at the campsite, a warm-up ride, and a final bike check. In the evening, there'll be a pasta buffet and a prominent speaker from the cycling world.

Longest Weekend 700km Challenge
On Friday, have an early breakfast at JOOP Coffee & Smiles in Schoorl, and at 06:00, right at sunrise, the starting gun goes off and we all hop on our bikes. The mission: ride the full loop and finish before sunset on Sunday, June 20 at 22:04. You'll ride in 2 or 3 stages and cycle only while the sun is up.

Round-up

What points of attention are there on the route?

Checkpoints - There is a checkpoint in each cardinal direction. Participants receive a stamp card to collect a stamp at each checkpoint. During the event, the checkpoints can be recognized by the GranRondo banner. In principle, it is not possible to spend the night at the locations.

Narrow tires? The road route runs entirely on paved roads, with approximately 3 km of gravel in the Drents-Friese Wold and along the Zeedijk in North Holland. In both cases, you can also cycle around these sections, but then you will miss a beautiful part of the Netherlands!

The gravel route contains approximately 50% unpaved/gravel sections spread throughout the route.

Mandatory overnight rest

For all participants, the rule is explicit: cycling is only permitted between sunrise (5:20 a.m.) and sunset (10:00 p.m.).

Why is this important?
There are dozens of nature reserves along the route. After sunset, entering forests or nature reserves is prohibited so that nature can rest. Animals need this time to eat, hunt, and sleep; disturbance by people and light in the dark causes stress and can endanger their survival.

The cycling ban after sunset also applies outside the nature reserves. This ensures that the rules are the same for everyone, including those who want to complete the route as quickly as possible.

You have registered. Where can you find the GPX?

Here are the steps to find the gpx:

  1. Go to account.granrondo.cc
  2. Enter the exact same email address you used to place the order.
  3. You will receive a verification code by email that you need to enter.
  4. In your account at Rondogidsen, you will see the Rondo you purchased. The GPX is on the Rondo guide page.

Can I also exchange or transfer my ticket?

No refunds are possible after the purchase of tickets.

If you are unable to attend this event, you can go "On an Adventure Yourself" on another date with the received Round Guide and route files. Other event provisions and extras (such as drinks) will be forfeited, without refund.

Tickets are personal and non-transferable to others.

How much of your donation goes to KiKa?

100% to KiKa
