The Route
Road route ↻123km ⇗760m
Gravel route ↻135km ⇗790m
A beautiful round, perfectly outlined by hand – a lovely circle on the map and a super fun, bike-friendly route full of unique highlights. 🚴♂️✨
To put this round on the map, you create the largest circle of Flemish Brabant — a loop that completely encircles Brussels without diving into the city bustle even once.
In the north, you skim along the Brussels-Scheldt Maritime Canal and dive into the forests of Bos van Aa, before heading westward past the stately Drietoren Castle and Diepensteyn Castle. Café De Palm and Het Brouwershuis are the first hint that this is a region where you can also live well in between. The Pajottenland then shows itself from its most characterful side: the Essene Climb wakes you up, the Saffelbergsestraat offers strong resistance, and via the Liedekerkebos and the graceful Sint-Kwintenkerk in Lennik, you head towards the Sint-Martinusbasiliek in Halle.
Through the wooded Krabos, you turn south towards the National Park Brabantse Wouden — green, quiet, and impressively large for being so close to a capital. Gravenhof Castle and Bij Eddy mark the transition to the relief-rich southeast, where the cobbled stretches of the Coigesteenweg and Kortenberg test your legs and the Drève de la Meuse leads you through a fairy-tale lane landscape. Brasserie Den Tram is the perfect excuse for a short break, before the finale via Duisburg and the Moorbos closes the circle. After 124 km on the pedals, you reach the point where you started. The circle is complete!
Narrow straps? That works perfectly! The route includes about 2 km of cobbled sections and about 4 km of gravel sections — all easily rideable on a racing bike.
Gravel bike? Then take the gravel variant of 136 km with extra unpaved sections through the forests and hollow roads around Brussels.
ps. The route is still a beta version (digitally checked to the last detail) and will soon be officially previewed by mr.granrondo. Check in the route planner if you want to join the ride.
