The greatest circle of Drenthe - ♪ I love you, my own little country, my old Drenthe land. I love the simplicity in your beauty, I have pledged my heart to you! ♫

An iconic loop, hand-plotted to perfection into a super fun, bike-friendly route full of beautiful highlights — and a unique circle on the map. 🚴‍♂️✨

To put this round trip on the map, the ancient province treats you to an enormous diversity. Enjoy exploring the most beautiful nature areas that Drenthe has to offer, including Dwingelderveld National Park, the Gasterense Diep, and the region around the Hunze.

In addition to the stunning heath and forests, this round trip is a treasure of cultural heritage. Admire the prehistoric dolmen D15 near Assen, pass the mill "Zeldenrust," and conquer the 'Wall of Emmen.' You are guaranteed to find refreshment along the many recreational lakes, such as Baggelhuizen, Schoonhoven, and the Grote Rietplas. After approximately 165km on the pedals, you will reach the point where you started. The circle is complete! Beautiful work!

Narrow tires? That works perfectly! The route is entirely paved, with about 500m of gravel.

Can you ride every day this Rondo?

Go on an adventure
Cycle this round whenever you want. You don't need to provide a date.

When there are large tours or cycling races, parts of the route may not be accessible or may have limited access. Check the cycling calendar and on the NDW website (does not work on mobile).

What is the starting point?

You can start anywhere on the circle.

Are you coming from further away? If possible, start a catering location on the route, so that you can start or end with a drink and/or a tasty (drink) snack.

What is the recommended riding direction?

Go on an adventure
This route is designed to cycle clockwise. It's the most beautiful and practical due to fewer crossings and traffic lights.

Events
For events, we cycle clockwise.

What to expect on the route?

The route is completely paved, with about 500m of gravel. East of Assen, you cycle into a dead-end road, where you will find burial mound D16.
