The greatest circle of Gelderland - A super-varied route through the forests and heaths of the Veluwe, the water-rich River Area, and the vast landscape of the Achterhoek.

A beautiful round, perfectly outlined by hand – a lovely circle on the map and a super fun, bike-friendly route full of unique highlights. 🚴‍♂️✨

To map this rondo, you make a significant loop through the largest province of the Netherlands.

In the river area, you can cross the water three times with a ferry: the IJssel at Gorssel, the Nederrijn at Wageningen, and the Pannerdensch Canal just after the beautiful Doornenburg Castle. It's a ride full of historical gems, such as Hemmen Castle, Eefde Lock, and the Bolwerksmolen near Deventer. The elevation gain is quite manageable, with the literal high point (60 meters above sea level) during the beautiful passage through the enchanting Crown Domain 't Loo and the mystical Speulderbos.

After over 190km (or 200km of gravel) on the pedals, you reach the point where you started. The circle is complete!

Narrow tires? That's perfectly fine! The route is entirely on paved roads, of which about 3km is gravel.

Gravel bike? Then take the gravel variant with an additional 40km of unpaved/gravel sections.

Self-guided adventure
Ride this route whenever you like. You don't need to specify a date.

Always check the ferry schedule.

What is the starting point?

You can start anywhere on the circle.

Are you coming from further away? If possible, start a catering location on the route, so that you can start or end with a drink and/or a tasty (drink) snack.

What is the recommended riding direction?

Self-guided adventure
This route is designed to be cycled counterclockwise. This is the most scenic route with the climbs and the most practical, as there are fewer pedestrian crossings and traffic lights.

Events
At events we ride counter-clockwise.

What to expect on the route?

If you are unable to attend an event, you can go on a Self-guided adventure on another date using the digital Rondoguide and route files. Event extras (such as drinks) will be forfeited. No refunds will be provided.
