The Route

The largest circle in the Netherlands - Based on 'The largest circle in the Netherlands' by Quinda, but even a bit rounder and more fun!

To put this loop on the map, you’ll make an impressive circuit through the Netherlands. In eight different provinces, you’ll cross a variety of beautiful landscapes in ‘the Low Countries’, between the North Sea coast in the west and the German border to the east.

It’s a legendary circuit with famous cycling highlights, including the Kennemer Dunes, Kopje van Bloemendaal, Rijk van Nijmegen, Montferland, Muur van Zeddam, Col du VAM, Dwingelderveld, Drents-Friese Wold, Alde Feanen, the Afsluitdijk, and the famous beachfront boulevard of Egmond aan Zee.

After 700 km (road route) or 750 km (gravel route) in the saddle, you’ll return to the starting point. The circle is complete!

Narrow tires? The road route is 99% on paved roads.

Gravel bike? Take the surprising gravel route with approximately 50% unpaved/gravel sections.

Can you ride every day this Rondo?

Go on an adventure
Cycle this round whenever you want. You don't need to provide a date.

Always check the ferry schedule.

When there are large tours or cycling races, parts of the route may not be accessible or may have limited access. Check the cycling calendar and on the NDW website (does not work on mobile).

What is the starting point?

You can start anywhere on the circle.

Are you coming from further away? If possible, start a catering location on the route, so that you can start or end with a drink and/or a tasty (drink) snack.

What is the recommended riding direction?

Adventure on your own
This route is specifically designed to be cycled counterclockwise. This offers the best experience of the climbs and views, and is more practical because there are fewer crossings and traffic lights. Another advantage is that the bicycle bus on the Afsluitdijk also stops at the intermediate stops when travelling from North to South. Otherwise, you would miss these beautiful cycling kilometres.

What to expect on the route?

Narrow tires? The road route runs entirely on paved roads, with approximately 3 km of gravel in the Drents-Friese Wold and along the Zeedijk in Noord-Holland. In both cases, you can cycle around these sections, but then you will miss a beautiful part of the Netherlands!

The gravel route contains approximately 50% unpaved/gravel sections spread throughout the route.
