The Route

The greatest circle of the Veluwe - A natural route at its finest; ride through forests and heathlands, past charming villages, and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife.

An iconic loop, hand-plotted to perfection into a super fun, bike-friendly route full of beautiful highlights — and a unique circle on the map. 🚴‍♂️✨

To put this loop on the map, you’ll ride an impressive circuit through the most beautiful parts of the Veluwe. We recommend starting at the idyllic Carolinahoeve in De Steeg.

You leave Veluwezoom National Park at Dieren and, on the eastern side of the loop, enjoy a beautiful ride along the IJssel, picking up a few surprising gravel sections on the road route!

In the north, you trade the river landscape for the expansive, rolling forests and heathlands around Elspeet and Vierhouten. After a wide crossing via Voorthuizen and the impressive Ginkelse Heide, you head towards Arnhem.

The sting is definitely in the tail here, with a challenging series of steep climbs, including the Emmapiramide, Zijpenberg and, of course, the Posbank. After 155 km (road route) or 170 km (gravel route) in the saddle, you return to the starting point. The circle is complete!

Narrow tires? No problem! The route is entirely paved, with approximately 1 km of gravel.

Gravel bike? Then take the gravel variant, with approximately 50% unpaved/gravel sections.

As a bonus, there is also an XL road route (186 km / 2 km gravel) and an XL gravel route (193 km / 40 km gravel).

Can you ride every day this Rondo?

Self-guided adventure
Ride this route whenever you like. You don't need to specify a date.

During major tours or cycling races, parts of the route may be inaccessible or limited. For more information, please check the cycling calendar and on the website of the NDW does not work on mobile).

What is the starting point?

You can start anywhere on the circle.

Are you coming from further away? If possible, start a catering location on the route, so that you can start or end with a drink and/or a tasty (drink) snack.

What is the recommended riding direction?

Self-guided adventure
This route is designed to be cycled counterclockwise. This is the most scenic route with the climbs along the way and the most practical due to fewer pedestrian crossings and traffic lights.

Events
At events we cycle counter-clockwise.

What to expect on the route?

The road route is fully paved, with approximately 2 km of gravel.

For some sections of the gravel route you need an MTB permit or day pass from Natuurmonumenten. Order one at: natuurmonumenten.nl/mtb/dagpas
